the whole person and not just the physical, nutritional side of that person.
Bio-Individuality/Diet
We know that individual dietary needs are
crucial to a person's overall physical health. However, many people are just not aware what works
best for them. For instance, did you know that cravings often are just your body's way of trying to balance itself
or fill a lifestyle void? Do you know that food affects your mood? Extreme examples are caffeine and alcohol.
And what about diets? Most people have tried a variety of diets and some may have managed to do well on one diet or
another. This success may have even lasted a few days or even weeks. However, when the emphasis on such diets is
willpower, deprivation, and denial, the chances of long term or permentant weight loss are slim. In fact, 90 percent of all
dieters regain some or all of the weight originally lost. By using an integrative approach of examining things such
as ancestery, blood type, metabolism, etc we will not only find what foods are right for your body but we'll look
at what really feeds you at your deepest levels. Remember, food fills you but things like an inspiring career,
honest and open relationships, a meaningful spiritual practice, and fun exercise/physical activity fulfill you!
Career
Are you working
to live or living to work? Do you get so busy that you forget to eat? Do you feel that work stress causes you
to overeat or has contributed to your health problems? Do you fill your work day with caffeine and/or sweets?
Are you just simply unhappy with your present job? While we may be picky about our relationships, our car,
our vacations, the food we eat, etc, we often spend years doing work we can't stand and that may be completely opposed to
our personal values. Often times fear of the unknown, financial security, or maybe contentment, just to name a few,
prevent us from pursuing the job of our dreams. A job we love rewards us in more ways than with just
a paycheck. A job that coincides with who you really are can be one of the most nourishing, satisfying and fulfilling
things in your life.
Relationships
Are all your
relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and romantic partners healthy, loving, positive, and fullfilling?
Often times when a relationship is draining and unfulfilling the results show up in other areas of our lives and can
certainly be a toxic influence. We ultimately want to cultivate relationships that are healthy and supportive of our
individual needs, wants, and desires. Remember, love is food for the soul!!
Spirituality
One of the goals of an integrative approach to health is inner
peace and wholeness. A good way to achieve that is to have a good spiritual practice. However, as in a diet, one size
does not fit all. Some people follow a traditional religion while others may practice things like New Age spirituality,
Atheism, daily meditation, Agnosticism, harmonize with nature, etc. Developing and following your own spiritual
path can add meaning and depth to your life and bring you to a place of peace and wholeness
Physical Activity
Our bodies thrive on movement! There are many different types
of exercises and there is no right exercise for everyone. Different people require different types of exercise to stay vibrant
and healthy. Some factors to consider are job, age, present activity level, etc. Probably the most important factor
in choicing an exercise routine is that it should be fun to do! If you make exercise, whatever type, simple and
fun, you will greatly increase your chances of staying with it!
